Steviol Glycosides in Canned Fruit Products: Health Canada

"Notice of Modification to the List of Permitted Sweeteners to Enable the Use of Steviol Glycosides from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni in Canned Fruit Products - Reference Number: NOM/ADM-0131" was released by the Health Canada on 03 April 2019.

The utilization of Steviol glycosides was already allowed as a sweetener in different unstandardized foods in Canada. However, Health Canada has permitted its utilization in canned fruit product following the completion of recent detailed safety assessment. This update leads to the modification of "List of Permitted Sweeteners" by the Health Canada.

The communication has been released by the Health Canada in order to announce this decision publicly. Any new scientific information regarding the safety of Steviol glycosides or any query related to this food additive is welcome by the Health Canada.
