Licenses will be issued to unattended applications

Updated: June 3, 2019

The FSSAI has stated that registrations and licenses will be issued automatically to food businesses in case of unattended applications. This is done in response to the communications received regarding the non-processing or delaying in license issuance.

It has been stated by the apex food regulator that license will be issued on the 61st day of filing of a completed application. It is done if no action will be taken by the licensing authority within 60 days. Similarly, there will be registration issuance on the 8th day of filing of the application, if no action will be taken within 7 days.

This is effective from 30 April 2019 and required actions have been done in the online system of Food Licensing and Registration.
According to the Clause 2.1.4 and 2.1.6 of the Food Safety and Standards Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses Regulations, 2011, applicant can pursue his/her food business if there is no communication received or license is issued to the party.
